Enhances Accessibility at Villajoyosa Beaches Through Installation of Inclusive Walkways

In the beautiful Spanish town of Villajoyosa, a series of exciting developments are underway, aimed at enhancing accessibility and improving the quality of life for all its residents and visitors.

The latest updates in Villajoyosa's accessible beach and inclusive walkways project have brought about significant improvements, particularly for those with mobility issues. As part of this initiative, 140 new sustainable, anti-slip walkways have been installed at the town's central beach areas, La Basseta de l'Oli and Playa Paradís [1]. These walkways are equipped with handrails, ensuring safer and easier access for wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility.

Moreover, these walkways are designed with accessibility in mind, featuring accessible signage, easy-to-read panels, Braille texts, QR codes, and video guides in Spanish Sign Language. These additions make the beach experience more inclusive for people with different accessibility needs [1].

This project is part of Villajoyosa's participation in the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística en Destinos (PSTD) and is funded by the EU’s NextGenerationEU scheme. The aim is to position Villajoyosa as a benchmark in accessible and responsible tourism. Additional enhancements include relocated and adapted foot showers, portable toilets, and expanded shaded platforms capable of accommodating over 60 users simultaneously [1]. The accessible beach area is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.

These improvements reflect Villajoyosa’s commitment to inclusive tourism infrastructure, forming part of a broader integrated strategy to enhance the town's quality of life [2].

Meanwhile, in the realm of education, the Poble Nou public primary school is undergoing renovations. The school's perimeter fence is being replaced, with a total of 202 metres of fencing being dismantled, restored, or replaced [3]. This work is part of an ongoing effort to improve local educational infrastructure during school holiday periods to minimise disruption [4].

Last week, Mayor Zaragoza and councillor for Education, Marisa Mingot, visited the school to oversee the start of the works [5]. Fencing panels are being taken off-site for cleaning, repair, and repainting, with new sections being installed where restoration is not feasible to match the original structure [3].

These combined initiatives underscore Villajoyosa's dedication to improving its infrastructure and quality of life, ensuring a brighter future for all its residents and visitors. The works are expected to be completed within two months.

In line with Villajoyosa's broader integrated strategy for enhancing quality of life, a part of this initiative extends to home-and-garden projects, as seen in the Poble Nou public primary school's fence renovations. Meanwhile, Villajoyosa's commitment to sustainable living is evident in the installation of 140 new, sustainable, anti-slip walkways in its central beach areas, La Basseta de l'Oli and Playa Paradís, as part of the accessible beach and inclusive walkways project [1,3].
