Enhanced Offering at Wiesbaden Travelers' Hub: Novel Attraction Unveiled
In an exciting development for families and children in Wiesbaden, construction has begun on a brand-new water play area in the heart of the city. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday, marking the start of a project that is set to bring a splash of fun and a touch of greenery to the Reisinger-Anlage.
The water play area, scheduled for completion in summer 2026, will be a child-friendly and family-friendly haven, featuring five water channels with 35 spraying jets. To cater to the youngest visitors, a separate, safely designed area for toddlers in the shape of a footprint is also planned.
The project's design is inspired by the legend of the giant Ekko, with the water play area's layout reflecting Wiesbaden's topography as per the tale. Water collected in the water play area will be contained in a basin-shaped handprint, adding a unique and imaginative touch to the facility.
The city of Wiesbaden announced the project cost, which is approximately 1.7 million euros. Half of the project's costs will be covered by funding from the Urban Development Promotion Programme "Growth and Sustainable Renewal".
In keeping with the city's commitment to sustainability, the water play area will boast a climate-friendly design. Shady trees, green areas, and a cooling effect from the water will create an eco-friendly oasis in the city centre. The design will also incorporate sustainable water systems, eco-friendly materials, and energy-efficient pumps or renewable energy sources.
Mayor Christiane Hinninger (Greens) expressed her joy about the project, stating it will be a new place for encounter, movement, and relaxation. The feedback from citizens significantly influenced the further planning of the project, with the focus on water, shade, and natural design.
