At the moment, two Kordofan giraffe bulls, aged a sprightly four, have taken up residence in the park. Hailing from the City of Lights, these rare gents, Kano and Marley, are looking forward to hooking up with some lovely ladies, or finding love elsewhere if that's how the cookie crumbles. "We could have them move for love, or we'll welcome some she-bulls to us," divulged a park representative. These cunning conservationists are aiming to expand the breeding program toward the eastern realms of the globe.
These two amigos were raised in distinct French zoos, and they're as thick as thieves – a small bachelor group, if you will. The Kordofan giraffe subspecies inhabits the dry regions of Central Africa, Sudan, and Chad. In captivity, they can live up to 25 years in a cozy, predator-free setting.
Critically Endangered Kordofan Giraffes
With a wild population of approximately 1,400 individuals, the Kordofan giraffe is considered critically endangered. You can find these majestic creatures in other zoos, such as Dortmund and Dresden, in addition to our little slice of heaven.
But that's not all, folks!Reticulated and Rothschild giraffes also call our expansive serengeti home. "According to our records, we're the only ones worldwide to host three distinct giraffe species," laughed the park rep. Thanks to the spacious 220-hectare setting, the giraffe species are kept separate to prevent genetic mixing, but each has plenty of room to roam around.
