Diehard Lego enthusiast expresses disapproval over alleged $1,000 price tag of the latest Death Star model.
The LEGO Group has announced the upcoming release of the largest and most expensive Star Wars LEGO set ever made: the LEGO Death Star (set number 75419). With a price tag of around $1,000 USD, this impressive set contains approximately 9,020 pieces and includes 38 minifigures, eclipsing the previous record holder, the UCS Millennium Falcon, in both price and piece count.
Priced at $1,000 USD, the Death Star is approximately $150 more expensive than the UCS Millennium Falcon and about $320 more than the LEGO Titanic, marking a significant pricing increase for large LEGO sets.
The Death Star set is a diorama-style Master Builder Series set, rather than the traditional spherical build, leading to mixed reactions in the LEGO community. Its size and complexity are evident in its piece count, which surpasses that of previous large sets.
The Death Star's design allows for all rooms to be on display, making it a potential centrepiece for any LEGO enthusiast's collection. It is rumoured to drop out of hyperspace on October 1, and features iconic moments such as Luke and Leia's swing across the ravine, Luke's final showdown with the Emperor and Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin's meeting with other Imperial bigwigs, the trash compactor, and Han's run-in with a squad of Stormtroopers.
However, some fans have expressed concerns about the set's cutaway design, arguing that it detracts from the original Death Star's iconic spherical shape. Given its size and weight, it is also likely that the new Death Star will need to be displayed on a wall.
In a separate release, the LEGO Group also announced the Harry Potter Lego set, Hogsmeade, which has been met with positive reviews from users. The Death Star, if it is indeed real, would be the most expensive LEGO release at the time of writing, surpassing the current most expensive set, the Ultimate Collector Series Millennium Falcon, which can be purchased for $813.09 at Amazon.
The other side of the new Death Star is yet to be revealed, leaving fans eagerly anticipating more details about this highly anticipated set. For the dedicated uber fans among us, the new LEGO Death Star seems to be the ultimate collector's item.
