Deliberately display kindness: a Sauk City bakery settles students' financial obligations
SAUK CITY, WI – Cordelia's Cottage Bakeshop, a Hawkins Boulevard establishment, has taken the initiative to assist graduating high school students in the community by collecting funds through a communal cookie jar.
Established over a year ago, the bakery offers its treats from owner Angela Witczak's home in Baraboo. Witczak shared her motivation, "I learned of students requiring financial assistance for school lunches and registration. I thought, how could I contribute to helping these students?"
Employing social media platforms, Witczak rallied support and raised over $2,500 for Sauk Prairie High School seniors, ensuring their debt-free graduation next month. Witczak noted, "People offered donations of $100 or chose not to purchase anything but instead contributed to the jar."
Jeff Wright, Sauk Prairie School District superintendent, commended the community effort, stating, "It's heartening to observe the community coming together to help ensure every student's needs are taken care of."
Beyond assisting the school district, Witczak has also organized funding for over 20 local organizations. When asked about the community's philanthropy, she replied, "It underscores the significance of collective efforts in effecting positive change."
Witczak encourages kindness, stating, "If one finds themselves pondering who should help, look in the mirror. You have the power to make a difference in people's lives."
Starting now until the end of May, cookie jar contributions will aid the Sauk Prairie VFW in their memorial project. For more information about community events and weather updates, download the Sauk15 News and Weather apps.
