Creative Artwork Using Shaving Foam
Children's playdates just got a whole lot more artistic! During a recent indoor event, a unique art technique called shaving foam painting was introduced, captivating the participants, particularly Miss C, aged 5.
The activity began with a simple preparation: white shaving foam was sprayed into a foil tray and mixed with blue and pink paint. A wooden chopstick was given to Miss C to swirl the paint around, creating a mesmerising blend of colours.
There are two popular methods for shaving foam painting: Shaving Cream Marbled Paper and Puffy Shaving Cream Paint. For this playdate, the Puffy Shaving Cream Paint technique was employed, resulting in soft, textured, and raised paintings with vibrant colours.
To create the Puffy Shaving Cream Paint, equal parts PVA glue and shaving cream were mixed in a bowl. Food colouring or paint was added to colour the mixture, which was then used to spread the paint on paper or cardstock. The paintings were left to dry naturally, often taking several hours or overnight.
Miss C delighted in swirling her paint around in the shaving foam, creating a series of beautiful and unique artworks. The activity was so engaging that it was repeated with green and orange paint, resulting in a collection of colourful prints.
An intriguing twist to the process was discovered when a piece of paper was laid over the foam-painted foil tray, pressed down lightly, and removed to reveal pictures. This method produced artwork from the prints, adding an extra layer of creativity to the activity.
Card was found to work best when compared to paper in the shaving foam painting activity, providing a sturdier base for the raised paint. Despite the messiness of the activity, preparation with paper towels and protective covering ensured that clean-up was manageable.
Shaving foam painting offers a sensory-friendly, fun, and engaging experience for children, making it an excellent choice for creative art projects. With its vibrant colours and textured effects, it's no wonder that this technique has become a popular choice for playdate activities.
