Yekaterinburg's Pavlik Morozov Park to Expand by Nearly 12%
The city council of Yekaterinburg has endorsed a decision to augment Pavlik Morozov Park by a significant 6,300 square meters, extending its total area to 56,000 square meters. The expansion envisages the demarcation of new park boundaries.
Located in the city's heart, enclosed by Belinsky and Lunacharsky Streets, the park currently caters to sports and children's play areas, dog-walking facilities, 14 diverse species of shrubs, and more than a thousand trees of 15 different species.
The city administration's press service disclosed that the park's designation as a specially protected natural area (SPNA) will serve to safeguard it against unauthorized modifications. The SPNA status allows the implementation of sanitary and health measures, such as tree and shrub pruning, and the planting of new species compatible with the park's ecosystem.
Following the acquisition of the SPNA status, city head Alexei Orlov signed the relevant document, which was subsequently sent to the city council for their consideration. Established in 1936 on the site of the former Sennaya Square, the historic park underwent a reconstruction in 2012. Prior to the planned expansion, the Yekaterinburg administration had carried out an environmental inspection and surveyed the area.
