Cessation of Parking Activities on Mount of Olives Ensues
In the heart of Niederkassel, a community-driven initiative called the 'Space Makers' project is making a significant impact. The project, aimed at redefining the usage of public spaces, has recently entered its final phase.
Deputy Mayor Gunnar Ohrndorf, responsible for Urban Development, Construction, and Mobility, has stated that the project's primary objective is to make public space more efficient and fair. During the action period, various activities were conducted to demonstrate how public space can be used differently. These included experiments on the energy transition, information sessions on children's rights, car-sharing with discounts, discussion rounds, music evenings, communal dinners, card games, and short rests. Residents even used mobile terraces for various activities, adding a touch of creativity to the transforming public spaces.
The city will evaluate feedback from emails, office hours, an on-site mailbox, and an online survey to further develop the parking space concept. The final action day for the 'Space Makers' will take place on July 30th at 6 PM at Otto-Böhne-Platz. The event will culminate in a musical performance by Rudi Rhode, Toster Maria Freitag, and friends at 7 PM.
In a unique twist, the mobile furniture used in the 'Space Makers' project is being loaned to Wuppertal and will be available in Niederkassel from Thursday. This shared use of resources reflects the project's commitment to efficiency and sustainability.
