The much-anticipated "Morning Has Broken" hike on Great Inselsberg, one of the highest peaks in the Thuringian Forest, took place this year, after last year's cancellation due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Organised by the Brotterode-Trusetal Tourism Agency, the hike started at 5 a.m. from the Grenzwiese parking lot. The event welcomed 40 registered participants who embarked on a journey to witness the sunrise on the Great Inselsberg.

Under clear skies and calm winds, the hikers, full and content from their romantic breakfast, set off towards the Reitsteine. Many were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the morning twilight on their way up.

However, thick fog rolled in just before the sunrise during the hike, creating a mystical atmosphere. The cold and fog were quickly dispelled with hot coffee and hearty treats, keeping the spirits high among the participants.

Despite the fog, the helpers were at their peak, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all. The lively conversations among the guests and the warm atmosphere made the hike a memorable one for everyone.

Mayor Kay Goßmann, who personally participated in the hike every year, gave a speech about the history of the Inselsberg and plans for its tourist development. He highlighted the commitment to developing infrastructure like marked trails, signage, and visitor facilities around Great Inselsberg to promote sustainable tourism. The plans also include integrating cultural or musical events alongside hiking to attract more visitors.

The "Morning Has Broken" hike is a popular event that started as community nature outings to appreciate the sunrise and natural beauty on the mountain. Over the years, it has grown in organisation and attendance, becoming a significant event promoting local tourism in the Thuringian Forest region of Germany.

For comprehensive, up-to-date details about the event's history, any official future plans, or tourist development information, it would be necessary to consult local tourism websites or dedicated event organisers from the Thuringia region.
