The National Maritime Authority will join the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) next week for an environmental inspection along the Algarve coast. This announcement, made by Maria da Graça Carvalho, aims to verify compliance with environmental standards and assess the quality of public services provided by beach concessionaires.

The inspection will focus on ensuring that concessionaires adequately maintain and manage beach infrastructure, environmental protection measures, and safety services offered to the public. Key areas of concern include cleanliness, proper waste management, availability and condition of facilities, and adherence to regulations designed to preserve the coastal environment and enhance visitor experience.

Unfortunately, specific objectives and aspects to be verified during the inspection have not been detailed. However, common practices in such inspections typically revolve around verifying environmental sustainability measures and the quality and safety of services provided to the public.

In a previous survey on the coast of Grândola, three beaches were found to lack the necessary infrastructure. Similarly, a similar operation was announced in June on the beaches along the coast of the municipality of Grândola, Alentejo.

The results of the Algarve inspection will be announced in early September. The Government is implementing measures such as expanding the public transportation system, installing parking restrictions, and continuously monitoring and inspecting these beaches.

The inspection will also focus on access issues, safety and first aid, and the availability of open, clean changing rooms and restrooms for public use. In addition, the Ministry plans to have operators post signs on these beaches to inform about pedestrian access and collaborate on projects to provide parking and access without restrictions.

A survey conducted in the Setúbal district found eight beaches with unrestricted access, two with controlled access, eight with restricted access, and one with prohibited access. The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) will conduct an inspection over the next month in Quarteira, Loulé municipality, Algarve.

18 out of 22 beaches inspected in Grândola were under concession. Despite fewer complaints about the area compared to Grândola, the inspection will be made along the entire Algarve coast to ensure consistency and maintain high standards.

During the environmental inspection in the Algarve region next week, focus will be given to checking whether home-and-garden practices, such as maintenance and management of beach infrastructure, are being adequately implemented. Additionally, the lifestyle aspect will be assessed through verifying cleanliness, proper waste management, and the condition of facilities along the Algarve coast.
