Sochi, the renowned Russian resort city, is set to be adorned with over 640 trees as part of the "Family Ancestral Tree" project. This initiative, supported by the resort administration and deputies of the Sochi City Council, aims to plant olive trees along the Primorsky embankment.

The project symbolises the enduring nature of family legacy and heritage. Olive trees, known for their longevity and resilience, are fitting symbols for family ancestry and continuity through time. Each tree stands as a reminder of family roots, growth, and the transmission of cultural and familial identity to future generations.

The planted olive trees function as living monuments of generational bonds and community memory, anchoring family histories in a shared public space and celebrating the passage of time through natural growth. The first olive trees were planted by Sochi families, each receiving a named plaque.

In essence, the project combines ecological restoration with cultural symbolism, enhancing both environmental and social dimensions along the Sochi embankment. It fosters a sense of place and belonging across generations.

Interestingly, although the olive is a subtropical plant, it is not commonly found in Sochi. However, the olive trees being planted are adapted to the local climate, with a total of 15 olive saplings, each over five years old, planned for planting.

In addition to the olive trees, 20,700 shrubs will also be planted in Sochi. The city budget has allocated 200 million rubles for compensatory greening.

The "Family Ancestral Tree" project is being implemented by the local branch of the public organization "OPORA RUSSIA". Since ancient times, the olive tree has symbolized harmony and prosperity, and in Sochi, it has become a symbol of generational continuity.

Olive trees are being planted near the "Festivalny" concert hall along the Primorsky embankment, adding a touch of cultural significance to the city's landscape. The project aims to promote generational continuity and the symbolism of the olive tree in Sochi, creating a visible and environmental legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.

The "Family Ancestral Tree" project in Sochi extends beyond ecological restoration, encompassing cultural symbolism, as olive trees, common symbols of harmony, prosperity, and generational continuity, are being planted along the Primorsky embankment. Simultaneously, the project embraces a lifestyle that respects and preserves the environment, as the city's home and garden landscape is being augmented with 20,700 shrubs, further cultivating a sense of connection to nature and history.
