Klaus-Dieter Zentgraf's Poster Exhibition at Filmmuseum München
Preparations are underway for an exciting new exhibition at the Filmmuseum München, featuring the extensive collection of film and theater posters amassed by Klaus-Dieter Zentgraf. Born in Erfurt and spending most of his life in Potsdam, Zentgraf began his passion for poster collecting in the 1980s and has since amassed an impressive collection of approximately 60,000 posters.
Zentgraf's collection includes a unique series of photos from his travels, showcasing doors of empty houses in Perleberg, titled 'A Thousand Doors'. These black and white photos, which will be on display at the exhibition, are a testament to Zentgraf's captivation with the artistic aspect of poster design.
Zentgraf's posters have played a significant role in the exhibitions he has organized over the years, numbering around 400 on various topics. He is intimately familiar with each poster and can tell a story about each one, making for an engaging and informative exhibition experience.
In addition to his poster collection, Zentgraf has published ten books about his travels, showcasing his photographic skills and artistic eye. He has travelled to 40 countries and photographed every station on a train trip across Brandenburg. Despite his extensive travel, he has yet to visit Australia.
Zentgraf served as the director of the Institute for Press and Contemporary History for 15 years and is currently working on a book titled 'A Thousand Doors'. He continues to collect posters and stores them in his basement, organized in large folders and labeled drawers.
