Aquatic instruction sessions designed for young refugees
In the heart of Wiesbaden, a new initiative is set to provide a refreshing splash of opportunity for refugee children. The project, spearheaded by the Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V. and supported by the Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., aims to integrate refugees through sport, promoting self-confidence, participation, and joy among the children.
The project is not a mandate for the Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., but a conviction born out of a commitment to education, integration, and equal opportunities. The Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. has not provided external funding for these additional courses, but they have handed over the project to Dr. Patricia Becher, Social Affairs Commissioner of Wiesbaden.
The first swimming courses for refugee children between 10 and 15 years old will commence on Monday, August 25, at the ESWE leisure pool. A further round of courses will start from Saturday, August 30, at the Kleinfeldchen for children between 5 and 8 years old. Qualified trainers from Wiesbaden Swimming Club will conduct these courses, with the aim of teaching refugee children and young people to swim safely.
The initiative has already provided a new sporting home for a group of refugee Ukrainian elite swimmers, demonstrating the club's commitment to the social integration of refugees through sport. Christoph Eichler, President of Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V., expressed the club's conviction, stating, "Learning to swim is not just about safety, but also about participation."
The project is expected to provide children with self-confidence, participation, and joy. Dr. Becher, Social Affairs Commissioner of Wiesbaden, appreciates the extraordinary commitment of all involved parties, expressing her gratitude for their dedication to the cause.
Citizens with questions regarding the project can contact the responsible department or office for more information. The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden is the publisher of this press release.
Connecting the shared themes of integration, education, and home, this upcoming outdoor-living project in Wiesbaden's home-and-garden spaces aims to enrich the lifestyle of children by promoting self-confidence and joy through various activities beyond the swimming courses. Dr. Becher, Social Affairs Commissioner of Wiesbaden, fosters a vision of making Wiesbaden a home that caters to everyone's needs and fosters a sense of belonging.
