Get ready, folks! The State Garden Show in the mystical Bavarian Forest is just around the corner, and it's set to dazzle visitors with a magical 137-day spectacle taking place from May 22 to October 5. In less than a week, the avant-garde event will officially be unveiled, with Bavarian Environment Minister, Thorsten Glauber (Free Voters) already expressing his anticipation as a "wonderful showcase" for Bavaria and the region. With an impressive investment of 11.3 million euros poured into Furth im Wald, the town is more than ready to captivate your senses.
The Countdown Begins
Minister-President, Markus Söder (CSU), is reportedly eager to attend the grand opening, turning the event into an event of state significance. Under its mesmerizing motto "Magically much to experience," the city of Furth im Wald intends to showcase enchanting garden and landscape designs, stunning floral displays, a buzzing beehive, bewitching artworks and masterful craftsmanship, along with invigorating regional gastronomy. With around 2,600 shrubs, 240 trees, and a whopping 148,750 perennials and bulbs in bloom, you're in for a visual treat that fully embodies the green magic of the Bavarian Forest.
Eco-Friendly and Climate Conscious
The State Garden Show takes a pragmatic approach, addressing pressing environmental issues such as climate change and drought, integrating solutions and measures that contribute to sustainable living. Over 3,000 events are planned throughout the show, offering an educational and interactive experience for all who attend. The show promises to be an exciting blend of captivating floral arrangements and environmental consciousness.
Enter, the Dragon
One theme that's impossible to ignore is the legendary dragon that has been woven into the fabric of Furth im Wald's history – the famous dragon of the centuries-old play "Further Drachenstich." Guests will find stunning flowerbeds arranged in the shape of dragon scales, a blood-red dragon's bridge railing, a hypnotic dragon's cave, and guided tours revealing the 14-meter-long high-tech robot dragon that will proudly take center stage during the festival.
The "Drachenstich," which takes place annually in August, is a time-honored tradition dating back almost 500 years. It was recognized as part of Germany's intangible cultural heritage in 2018.
Boosting the Community
Furth im Wald's mayor, Sandro Bauer, sees the State Garden Show as a transformative opportunity for the town, giving them a golden opportunity to correct any urban planning oversights. An example of this can be seen in the construction of the new, open park arena, which replaced the old festival hall.
When Bauer first heard about the idea of hosting such a large event, he initially doubted that the town would be prepared to handle it. But today, he proudly wears the title of host city, with the show promising to leave a lasting, positive impact on the community. The Czech Republic's cultural influence is also subtly woven throughout the show, with bilingual information boards reflecting the region's proximity to its neighbor.
A Historic First
The 11.3 million euros invested into Furth im Wald for the State Garden Show makes it the most expensive event of its kind, surpassing previous records, according to Minister Glauber.
The excitement doesn't stop there, as the next State Garden Show will take place in Bad Windsheim in 2027, with the jubilee edition planned for Nuremberg in 2030.
Once again, the magical adventure that awaits visitors to the State Garden Show in 2025 in the Bavarian Forest is nothing short of extraordinary. So, mark your calendars and get ready to be whisked away into the heart of the mystical Bavarian Forest!
